THE GEOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF THE PHILIPPINES

About Us

Admit this, many organizations and societies are being ignored by people because these groups will not do anything good or beneficial for them, right? It’s a stereotyped perception. Just like when people try to ignore a begging man thinking that the latter will only spend the alms for vices like cigarettes. Societies and organizations are being turned down too, because of the idea that even though these groups do exist, still nothing good happens in this country. Are you familiar with The Geological Society of the Philippines? Unlike other organizations, this more important because it’s dedicated in the current geological status of the country. It’s not just an ordinary group but rather a society that has a passion for the Mother Earth.

The Geological Society of the Philippines was organized on September 2, 1945 which was also a VJ Day. Dr. Jose Feliciano, who was a former president of the Department of Geology and Geography of the University of the Philippines, became the first President of the Society. Other officials were also elected like Dr. Victoriano Elicano taking the Vice President position, Mr. Francisco Paguirigan as the Secretary-Treasurer and Mr. Ramon Abarquez as the organization’s editor. Currently, the Society has four objectives which are listed below:

1.To promote the science of geology and allied earth sciences.
2.To foster the spirit of scientific research.
3.To disseminate knowledge concerning the geology of the Philippines and the regions immediately surrounding it.
4.To protect and maintain a high professional and ethical standard in the practice of geology amongst its members.
